Lewisham businesses could get priority for council contracts in a bid to support economic growth

Lewisham businesses could get priority for council contracts in a bid to support economic growth in the borough.

Lewisham Council agreed to the Sustainable Procurement Strategy 2021 – 2025 last Wednesday.

Businesses involved will also be required to support the Council’s commitment to tackling the Climate Emergency by submitting Carbon Reduction Plans, so new contracts will help reduce carbon emissions.

A procurement team will work with departments across the Council to help and advise them, so that all contracts meet the new criteria.

Councillor Amanda de Ryk, Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources, said: “We are committed to supporting Lewisham’s economy and ensuring local businesses have the opportunity to bid for Council contracts.

“Our new procurement strategy will see more money invested in the borough, supporting economic growth and creating new job opportunities for residents.

“It will also reinforce our commitment to tackling the Climate Emergency and ensuring that our procurement procedures provide high quality services for residents and best value for money.”
