Gary Cahill confirms he has refused Crystal Palace’s reduced wages offer and is leaving the club
Gary Cahill has confirmed that he has left Crystal Palace and will not be signing a new deal.
The 35-year-old spent two seasons with the South Londoners following his release from Chelsea in 2019.
Despite being offered a new deal on reduced wages, Cahill, who featured 20 times in the Premier League under Roy Hodgson last season, has decided not to renew his deal at Selhurst Park.
On his Instagram post, Cahill said: “After much thought and deliberation, I can confirm that I have left Crystal Palace FC after an enjoyable two years.
“I have really enjoyed my time at the club and I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone involved at the club, especially the fans and staff who welcomed me into their South London family.
“It’s been a privilege to play at Selhurst Park, especially in that first season where I got to experience the atmosphere that the Eagles fans create on a match day. Playing in front of the Holmesdale Road stand is a memory that I will cherish in particular.
“I would like to wish the club all the best for the future and wish them every success for the coming season.”
Cahill joins Andros Townsend, Mamadou Sakho, Scott Dann, Stephen Hendersen and Wayne Hennessey as the players who have been let go by Palace as part of their summer rebuild.
