The Globe gives kids a first taste of Shakespeare

To see or not to see? That is the question.

Shakespeare’s Globe has opened its doors to schoolchildren for live theatre for the first time in nearly two years.

The specially-adapted production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream sees nearly 20,000 free tickets given to schools in London and Birmingham.

The programme, sponsored by Deutsche Bank, is often the first time many students have been to the theatre.

Each performance, which ran until this Tuesday, saw the iconic Globe theatre full of more than 1,000 young people, giving students the experience of live theatre and group activities sorely missed this past year.

The season-opening production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream has been adapted for a younger audience as part of the 15th anniversary of the Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank project.

Students were also invited to a free one-hour practical workshops to explore the characters and language of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
