Blackheath stay top of table following 89-run win over Lordswood
Blackheath maintained top spot in Kent Cricket League Premier with a convincing 89-run win at home to Lordswood on Saturday.
An ominous-looking soft and green wicket convinced the visitors to put Blackheath into bat first. It looked like a bad toss to lose.
That said, this was a case in point of why you should never judge a book by its cover as the wicket was conducive to a fine batting display.

Some disciplined bowling was enough to take out opener Dipayan Paul (9) but a patient Shahzaib Hassan and Tanweer Sikander rode a tricky early period containing some misbehaving deliveries, two dropped catches and some good leaving.
Hassan displayed patience and class, capitalising on anything over-pitched. The highlights of his innings being two lifted cover drives that both travelled beyond the ropes.
His fine display was not enough to earn him a maiden century when an unfortunate mix up led to him being run out for 98.
Sikander didn’t let the end of the 180-run partnership halt his progress and was ably supported by the middle order as he scored an incredulous 147. He consistently found the boundaries over extra cover and mid-wicket and led the home side to a daunting total of 327-5 from 50 overs.

Lordswood came out all guns blazing but 115-1 quickly became 144-5 before the drinks break and this flurry of wickets effectively killed the game off as a contest.
Sikander was again the star, finishing with figures of 4-45 from 10 overs. Jahid Ahmed, Hassan and Jahed Miah all took one wicket apiece with Chris Willett’s golden arm providing two important scalps.
