Herne Hill Harriers round-up: U13 boys are only club winners at latest Surrey Cross Country League meeting

Herne Hill Harriers’ men and women finished sixth and eighth at the second Surrey Cross Country League fixture at Wimbledon Common on Saturday.

The U13 boys were the only team winners from the club on the day. The U15 girls placed second, the U13 girls were third and the combined U15/17 boys came fifth. Phoebe Bowen was the only individual winner as first U17 women’s finisher.

The winning U13 boys team comprised Lucas Heath, Dylan Gillies, Jack McLennan and Will Perry, who finished second, third, ninth and 27th. The U15 girls team comprised Orla Carroll (second), Vivi Marshall (fourth), Rosalie Laban (seventh) and Martha Brennan (17th). The U13 girls quartet were Maeve Minielly (eighth), Lily Kitto (12th), Summer Mackay (18th) and Emma Chambers (27th).

The U15 and U17 boys grouped together. Josh Lee-Baum (12th), Fabien Whitelock (18th), Oak Buchan (21st) and Freddie Hake (29th) formed the fifth-placed team.

Herne Hill’s first man home was Joe Morwood (15th place). Carl Delaney finish 26th, followed in by Brandon Dewar (41st), Dan Shaw (53rd), Mike Cummings (55th), Jack Dickenson (62nd), Jeff Cunningham (64th), Jack Hillier (67th), first M45 man Andrew Perfect (69th) and Andrew Warburton (75th). The B team was led by Ben Paviour (78th), Joe Fenwick (82nd), Joe Elliott (87th), George Withers (88th), Kojo Kyereme (89th) and Richard Henderson (92nd).

Sarah Grover crossed the line first for the women’s A team (21st), followed by Julia Wedmore (25th), Karen Ellison (39th), Grace Leyland (43rd) and Aimee Hargreaves (58th). The B team was Megan Gildea (66th), Monika Gajek (84th), Laura Donnelly (101st), Eliza Cottington (109th)and Jemima Hayward-Bhika (130th).

GB junior international Phoebe Anderson placed sixth at the NCAA Division 1 Northeast Regionals in Boston, USA last Friday. Anderson has qualified for the finals at Florida State University tomorrow.

Poppy Craig-McFeely finished 23rd in the U20 women’s race at the British Athletics Cross Challenge in Milton Keynes.
