Millwall duo on bench for Australia for Group C opener against France

Tim Cahill and James Meredith are both on the bench for Australia today in their Group C opener against France.

Neither of the Millwall men were expected to make Bert van Marwijk’s starting 11 for the match at the Kazan Arena.

The Socceroos also face Peru and Denmark in their group.

Cahill is aiming to become only the fifth player to score at four World Cup finals. Cristiano Ronaldo joined that elite list last night as he bagged a hat-trick for Portugal in the 3-3 draw with Spain.

Former Palace captain Mile Jedinak starts for Australia.
