Charlton boss Johnnie Jackson reveals nature of injuries to striking duo Aneke and Washington

BY LOUIS MENDEZ

Charlton forwards Conor Washington and Chuks Aneke both missed Saturday’s trip to Wigan Athletic with muscle complaints.

The striking duo both featured at Bolton in midweek but were unable to make a second trip to the north west in four days.

Manager Johnnie Jackson says he’s unable to put a timeline on their returns as of yet.

“They’ve both got muscle injuries that they picked up in the Bolton game,” revealed the Addicks boss.

“We’re going to have to monitor them and assess them. Unavailable today and I’m not sure yet how long they will be.

Their absence did mean that 17-year-old academy player Daniel Kanu was featured in the first-team squad at the DW Stadium for the first time – and was was introduced from the bench late on to make his senior debut.

“He’s done great in youth team football,” said Jackson.

“That’s youth team football and this is a whole different level. It’s fantastic, I love to be able to give young lads their debuts but it’s a part of the pitch where we’re depleted. Missing [Jayden] Stockley, Washington and Aneke is going to make life a little bit more difficult.”
