Jake Forster-Caskey on his Charlton Athletic future – confirms no contact yet over deal trigger

Jake Forster-Caskey is waiting to hear if Charlton Athletic will trigger an extension in his contract.

The 28-year-old midfielder signed a 12-month deal last summer and the Addicks have an option to extend that by a further year.

The South London Press understands the deadline for Charlton to make a decision on Forster-Caskey is the middle of this month.

The former England U21 international has worked his way back from a second ACL injury which he suffered in the penultimate fixture of the 2020-21 season.

“I had a few goals to get to and being fit by the end of the season and getting a few games under my belt was one of them,” Forster-Caskey told Charlton Live at the club’s end-of-season awards night yesterday.

“I’d have loved to have played a bit more but I’m really happy I’ve come back and feel like I’ve influenced a few games, even though there were some tricky ones I came on in.

“I’ve got six weeks to take the weight off my shoulders and go again next season.”

Asked about talks over his future, Forster-Caskey replied: “I’ve had no conversation, so I don’t really know.

“The club have got a clause but I don’t really know what the future holds, I can’t say either way.

“I’m looking to get myself in the best shape possible over the summer and kick on next year, wherever that may be. I believe I’m one of the best [in his position] in this division.”
