Deptford school kids celebrate opening of new playground

An enthusiastic Year 3 class from Deptford Primary School joined Damien Egan, the Mayor of Lewisham, to celebrate the opening of their newly-refurbished playground.

The new playground refurbishment at Sayes Court Parl, in Deptford, features a wooden Golden Hind ship, which pays tribute to the area’s maritime history near the Thames.

There is also a new sandpit area, a new spinner bowl and a new climbing frame.

The swings have been upgraded as well, with a new “You and Me” swing, allowing less able children to be with a parent, and the “Birds Nest” swing, also encouraging more inclusive play.

Damien Egan, Mayor of Lewisham said: “It was lovely to open our new playground at Sayes Court.

We were joined by children from Deptford Park school who were having a great time on the new equipment.

“We have another two playgrounds coming in Deptford, and we’re visiting all Lewisham’s parks to see where we can make more improvements.”
