Ben Garner says Charlton are hopeful of announcing additions soon – and reveals where he thinks his squad is short

Charlton are playing a waiting game in the chase for some new arrivals, manager Ben Garner has revealed.

The Addicks boss still hopes to make additions to his squad and says there’s one or two waiting in the wings – whilst also revealing where he feels the squad is short.

Garner explained: “We’ve done as much as we can from a club perspective. It’s a jigsaw. We’re just waiting for the final pieces to fall into place. It’s not in our hands, we’ve done everything we can.

“We’re very hopeful of getting one or two over the line quickly. But we’ve got to be patient. It’s day by day – I’m just hoping I get that phone call from Steve [Gallen] to say it’s done and we’re ready to go.

“We’re looking at different players, there’s loan options and permanent options. We’re looking at all avenues. We just want to get the right players in, whatever means that is. Hopefully, get as good a squad in place as we can.

“We’ve got good numbers in midfield. Not too bad in forward areas but probably need one or two more. And we’re a little bit short defensively, with Mandela Egbo getting injured. But we’ve got players who are good enough to come in and play for sure and we’ve got young players who did well over pre-season champing at the bit as well.”
