Two men sought after attempted robbery left man with an eye injury

Detectives investigating a violent attempted robbery in Soho have released images of two men they want to identify and speak with.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service [LAS] at at around 1.20am on Monday, December 27, 2021 to reports of an injured man at Frith Steet, Soho.

Officers responded and found the victim, a 28-year-old man, with facial injuries.

Officers established that the victim had been approached on the street by two men who attempted to engage him in conversation. The victim declined to engage and the two men walked away.

Around 10minutes later the suspects returned and, unsuccessfully, tried to take his watch. While doing so they punched him repeatedly in the face.

The victim was taken to hospital by LAS where medical staff found he had suffered a fractured eye socket and lacerations that required stitches.

Detective Constable Christine Metz, Central West Command Unit said: “This was an unprovoked, extremely violent, assault on a man going about his normal day. The level of violence was unnecessary which makes me very keen to identify and apprehend these individuals.

“The public has a right to use the streets of our city without fear of being attacked and robbed of their personal property.

“The victim still suffers from the effects of his injuries to this day – those effects last far beyond the healing of wounds or a loss of property.”

Anyone who has information that can help police should call 101 ref CAD 0461/27Dec21.
