Lincoln, Shrewsbury and Leyton Orient hold interest in Charlton Athletic midfielder

Charlton Athletic midfielder Alex Gilbey is attracting interest from Lincoln City, Shrewsbury Town and Leyton Orient.

The Addicks are happy for the 27-year-old Dagenham-born player to leave before the transfer deadline.

Gilbey signed for the South Londoners in August 2020 and is due to be out of contract at the end of next season.

Charlton manager Ben Garner has boosted his options in the middle of the park with the summer additions of Conor McGrandles and Jack Payne.

Gilbey’s only first-team appearance this season came in the EFL Cup win over QPR. He played the full 90 minutes. But he did not even make the bench for the League One fixtures against Derby, Sheffield Wednesday and Plymouth.

Charlton boss Ben Garner is hoping to make more additions to his squad before the window closes but some of that is dependent on deals happening for players on the fringes.

Jake Forster-Caskey, who signed a 12-month contract extension prior to Garner’s arrival as manager, is another first-teamer who is out of favour.
