Mick Beale happy with four-point haul as QPR in Championship play-off places heading into international break
Mick Beale admitted that QPR’s 0-0 draw against Stoke City on Saturday was a “fair result”.
The R’s move into the top-six with that result after beating South London club Millwall 2-0 in midweek.
QPR boss Beale said: “It was a strong Championship game. They brought a lot of power, good organisation and a good gameplan. They frustrated us in the first half, they pinned us in and I could see exactly what Alex [Neil] was doing.
“I responded in the second half by changing our shape a little bit and we tried to really go for it.
“It was whether the game was going to have that moment of quality or a bad mistake. We are a little bit frustrated tonight as the home team but I thought, on the balance of play, a draw was probably about right.”
Beale introduced Lyndon Dykes in the second half and gave his verdict on the striker’s performance.
He added: “Lyndon knows he has my trust and it was always the plan at some stage of the game to go with that shape.
“We decided to go for it at half-time and it gave us real impetus in the game. It felt like we played the majority of the second half in their half.
“We have had a big week. We have gone away to Millwall and had Stoke at home, and taken four points and kept two clean sheets.
“It’s strange, we have been chasing clean sheets all season and now we have two back-to-back. That result takes us into the top six and going into the international break with all the changes we have had this summer, I think we can be happy.”
The QPR boss praised both sets of fans for their tributes to Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away last week.
Beale said: “The showing of support for the Queen has been fantastic across all the stadiums. It has been a heart-warming week and we have to remember family comes first. Yes, we know it is the Queen but she is also someone’s mum, someone’s grandmother.
“In their family it must be a really awful time and the one thing they may take from this is the love from across the country.”
