Millwall’s on-loan Leeds defender the only Lion to enjoy latest international round of matches

Millwall loanee Callum Styles’ hopes of qualifying for the Nations League semi-finals were ended after his Hungary side lost 2-0 to Italy in Budapest on Monday.

The hosts had to avoid defeat to finish top of League A Group 3.

But Giacomo Raspadori and Federico Dimarco scored for the reigning European champions as they moved to the top of the standings after the final round of fixtures.

Styles, on a season-long loan from Barnsley, did have the satisfaction of finishing above Germany and England, the latter winless in the competition.

George Saville’s Northern Ireland retained their Nations League third tier status despite a 3-1 loss to Greece in Athens.

The Lions midfielder was subbed on inside the opening 10 minutes due to an injury to Jordan Thompson.

Ireland collected five points from their six matches and finished above Cyprus on goal difference.

Saville did start in the 2-1 win over Kosovo last Saturday.

Charlie Cresswell played the final 22 minutes for England U21s as they defeated Germany 3-1 at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane.

The Leeds United centre-back, loaned to the Lions in the summer, replaced Leicester City’s Luke Thomas.

Cresswell, 20, played the full 90 minutes on the right of a back three as England defeated Italy 2-0 at the end of last week.

Lee Carsley’s side are tuning up for the UEFA European U21 Championships in Germany, which start in June.
