A woman has died in hospital after she was rescued from a house fire in Eltham yesterday morning.

The London Fire Brigade confirmed today that the woman who was rescued from a house fire in Alderwood Road had passed away.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued the woman through an internal staircase.

Half of the ground floor of the house and most of the first floor of a mid-terraced house were damaged by fire. The roof of the building was also destroyed.

A man and a child left the building before the brigade arrived and were also taken to hospital.

The Brigade was called at around 4.40am and the fire was under control at around 6am.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Eltham, Sidcup, Lee Green, Bexley and Plumstead fire stations attended the scene.
