Charlton Athletic winger joins Bromley on loan
Charlton Athletic winger Charles Clayden has joined Bromley on loan until the start of January.
The 21-year-old has made 10 appearances in all competitions for the Addicks, eight of those in League One.
Clayden had been used at left-back at first-team level but his opportunities look diminished with Steven Sessegnon back to full fitness and fellow academy product Richard Chin also getting some game time.
Clayden has not been in the matchday squad for Charlton’s last two League One matches.
Bromley are fourth in the National League and he is in line for his debut at home to Gateshead tomorrow.
Garner said: “It’s a great loan for him. It’s perfect in terms of geography, in terms of the location and in the vicinity to us. And it’s an opportunity for him to play week in, week out and develop – which is what he needs.
“He’s had a good start to the season, in terms of the appearances he has had for us, and he needs to bridge that gap to where he is to playing consistently in League One. Going to the National League, and a good club in Bromley, will do him the world of good.
“It will hopefully push him on and allow him to go to another level in terms of his performances.
“It’s difficult [for Garner to go and watch Clayden] with the amount of games we have. I always try to get to a game when I can, either our players or watching in recruitment terms.
“We’ve been really fortunate to have Jon De Souza managing our loans, he’s out watching them every week. It’s been a big part of his role. For example, Deji Elerewe at Wealdstone – Jon’s probably watched him seven or eight times this season. That’s really useful in terms of the feedback we get from that.
“And also those players, when they come in, get specific training that they need as well. Jon has been brilliant at doing that.”
