A hotel could be demolished for a 30-story tower block named after the Queen.
Plans for hundreds of flats on the site of the Croydon Park Hotel are expected to be lodged with the council in December.
The £200m plans, from Amro Partners went on show at public consultation events on Thursday, October 20 and Saturday, October 22. They show proposals for 450 homes which would all be rented out.
The existing hotel would be demolished to make way for a tower block of up to 30-stories tall.
The developer is now calling it The Lilibet – the childhood nickname of Queen Elizabeth II.
The hotel was sold off by Croydon Council for £25m, which is £5m less than it bought it for in 2018. The pandemic pushed the hotel into administration in June 2020.
The new block of flats would be accessed on the corner of Hazledean and Altyre Roads with a mix of one, two and three-bedroom flats.
The developer said one in 10 will be wheelchair accessible and residents will have access to a gym and communal areas.
The developer also said the plans include a shared garden and play space for children along with new public spaces with trees lining Altyre Road to Park Hill Park.
A website has been set up with more information about the proposals where locals can have their say on the emerging plans by November 3.
The website reads: “The new development will bring a much-needed positive uplift to the local area. The current hotel building, now vacant, has become an abandoned eyesore and the building presents a gloomy face to Altyre Road. The frontage on Hazledean Road is blighted by an underused, ugly open car park.”
The developer expects a full planning application will be submitted this December which will trigger a formal public consultation.

This is not Croydon park hotel. Get your pictures right.
Around east croydon is becoming a high rise eyesore . To build so many tower blocks you have to have an infrastructure to support the amount of people. With Croydon without Westfield and a shabby Whitgift centre this is not possible .Concentrate on rebuilding the background to people’s lives eg shops etc and then if needed add the housing .
The picture is definitely not Croydon Park Hotel…
That picture is not the Croydon park Hotel. Best change swiftly or await a claim for slander.
The picture is of a completely different hotel in South Croydon.
How much more unnecessary (and hideous architecturally) housing is Croydon going to allow to be built?
There already seems to be a lot of unoccupied flats that have been built in Croydon in the last eight years.
Who is going to buy these properties?
Another ugly tower.. they’d better demolish or make use of the do many ugly huge office buildings which are just empty for many years…
