Met officers were called at around 3.40pm yesterday after concerns were raised over a woman at an address in Tanner’s Hill.

A woman, believed to be aged in her 30s, was found with stab wounds, but despite the efforts of the emergency services, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her next of kin have been informed.

The victim and the arrested man were known to each other. Officers are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.

Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, in charge of policing for Lewisham, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who has lost her life and we will continue to give them specialist support.

“I know that there will also be shock and concern within the community at this time. I want to reassure people that this was an isolated incident and that a man remains in police custody.

“There will continue to be an enhanced police presence in the area and anyone who has any concerns or information that could help the investigation should speak to officers.”
