Wilf Zaha not overthinking Crystal Palace contract situation

Wilfried Zaha has insisted that he is not thinking about his Crystal Palace future despite his current deal with the club expiring at the end of this season.

The Ivorian is coming to the end of the five-year contract extension he signed in 2018, with Juventus, Barcelona and A.C. Milian all reportedly keeping tabs on Zaha. He would be allowed to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with clubs overseas come January 1.

Zaha moved up to third in the all-time Crystal Palace appearances after his 441st outing in the 1-0 win over Southampton last time out.

It was reported during the week that the Eagles had verbally offered Zaha a new deal to extend his stay at Selhurst Park.

When asked about his future in an interview on PalaceTV with Canal 11, Zaha said: “I’m at Crystal Palace. I’m still under contract.

“What happens in the future is going to happen. Right now, I’m just concentrating on our next game and helping the team to win. That’s my only focus right now.

“I don’t tend to overthink these things.”

The 29-year-old forward is 12 goals away from reaching 100 for the Eagles in all competitions. He scored 14 last season under Patrick Vieira and already has five goals to his name this season in 11 Premier League starts.

“I’m aiming to beat the amount that I scored last season,” added Zaha.

“I scored 14 last season. This season, hopefully I can get more than that.”

The Eagles have two away games – against West Ham and Nottingham Forest – in the Premier League and a trip to Newcastle for the third round of the EFL Cup before the season breaks for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

“I have no expectations at all,” said Zaha.

“We just take every game as it comes because the Premier League is very difficult. Every single team you play against is totally different. We’re just taking every team as they come.

“I’m hoping for the best, but we’re ready for everything.”
