A timely workshop on mental health for Black History Month
Lambeth and Southwark are at the forefront of a national mental health crisis.
Government stats show one in four of the UK population will suffer from a mental health crisis, but for black and minority ethnic groups the figure is higher.
What are the paths to decrease these figures and where does the solution lie? In Lambeth and Southwark the African-Caribbean population is approximately 200,000 people.
Up to 80 per cent of those passing through the cells of Brixton Police station are suffering from mental illness.
The aim of this conference is to explore alternative healing techniques for people from communities which suffer disproportionate rates of mental illness and also identify strategies to prevent crisis.
Presentations and speakers include Dr Christine & Cornelius Browne from the Mind Gym, education expert Olga Mathews and Rashid Nix of the Mentoring Workshop.
