200 year Old Tiger’s Head pub in Lee Green undergoes £500,000 refurbishment

A pub that is more than 200 years old is undergoing a £500,000 refurbishment.

Work started on the Old Tiger’s Head in Lee Green on Monday, October 22 and the pub will be closed for six-and-a-half weeks.

The Old Tiger’s Head was originally built in Lee Road in about 1750.

The pub will be divided into two sections. One side will be a family-friendly bar and dining area while the other will be a sports and spirits pub.

Food will be served in the pub for the first time.

Caskaway Taverns, which runs the pub, is offering local schools and groups the opportunity to use the entertainment lounge free of charge outside of key trading times for events like the school nativity play.

Caskaway Taverns operations director, Simon Boulter, said: “After the refurbishment, The Old Tiger’s Head will be the only pub in the area to offer great food, drink and barista-style coffee in a comfortable, modern interior while offering sports and live entertainment.

“It is important to us that The Old Tiger’s Head is the hub of the community.

It will be somewhere that appeals to the young families moving into the area and existing old Lee Green residents – a new place where people of all ages can come together – Lee’s newest, oldest pub.”
