Lambeth scoring well for top levels of primary school education, study reveals

Lambeth is providing some of the best access to outstanding primary school places in England, according to new research.

Data from education software specialist The Access Group, calculated ratings by taking the number of children set to attend primary school in the 2023/24 academic year, and comparing it to the number of outstanding primary schools per local authority.

With roughly 119 children per outstanding primary school, pupils in Lambeth had the 15th best access to outstanding primary schools in England.

Lambeth has 3,105 children entering each of the region’s 26 schools next year – this equates to 119.4 per school.

Hammersmith & Fulham is not far behind, with the 17th best rating of 121.2, based on 1,818 children entering and 15 outstanding primary schools within the local authority.

Cllr Ben Kind, Lambeth’s cabinet member for children and young people said the statistics bear out the local authority’s belief that it was delivering high quality education for youngsters.

“We are thrilled to be able to work with our local schools to offer young people in Lambeth some of the best access to outstanding primary school places in England,” he said.

“Despite the tightening of government funding and the challenges of Brexit, Covid-19, and the cost-of-living crisis, I’m proud that that so many of our primary schools are rated Good or Outstanding by Ofsted.

“Lambeth offers excellent educational opportunities to all its students and the council has supported our schools through investing millions in improving school facilities.

“I would like to thank the hard work and dedication of our teachers and school staff in delivering high quality education in what has been a challenging period for schools and young people.”

Applications for primary school admission for 2023/24 entry close on Sunday.
