Millwall boss hoping trio can all resume training today and be available for Cardiff City trip

Millwall manager Gary Rowett is hoping that Scott Malone, Shaun Hutchinson and Jake Cooper will all train today.

The trio are injury doubts for Saturday’s match at Cardiff City.

Rowett told the South London Press: “We’re hoping that Scottie, Hutchy and Coops will all train Thursday. At that point we’ll see how they are.

“Hutchy and Coops have only missed a couple of days, which we felt was important to give them that chance not to be carrying something.

“That’s more or less where we are. We’ve got a couple of other niggles but nothing too serious. Hopefully, unless we have a disastrous two days, the squad will look a little bit stronger again.”

Attacker Tyler Burey is one who will definitely miss the remainder of this month. Teenager Romain Esse has been a recent addition to the bench and has made four substitute appearances, three in the Championship.

“He has damage to his hip,” said Rowett. “At the point of injury it looked like a six-week one, he might come back quicker or it might be longer. It’s where we think it will be.

“It’s a bit of a blow because his impact off the bench and starting – he’s a different type of winger – has been crucial so far. To have Benik [Afobe] go and then Tyler injured just leaves us a little short of that extra sort of pace and directness one-v-one.

“Tyler is very much if you get the ball to his feet he can run at people. That’s a massive strength of his. He gets you up the pitch and into the final third. He can do something a little bit different.

“Romain is a bit more of a manipulator of the ball to beat people. He can create inside and outside. He’s got those lovely feet and passing awareness. Tyler is very, very good at what he does – probably the best at that in our squad. Romain has got a different skillset – a rounded game that makes him stand out.
