‘When muck and bullets are flying’ – Andy Woodman on ex-Millwall defender’s influence after reaching 100 Bromley appearances
Andy Woodman hailed the influence of Byron Webster after the Bromley skipper reached 100 appearances for the club last weekend.
The 35-year-old reached a century of appearances for the Ravens after he played the full 90 minutes in the 4-1 win over Yeovil Town last Saturday.
Former Millwall defender Webster – who played 137 times for the Lions in all competitions – made the switch to Hayes Lane at the start of the 2020-21 season.
Webster has been Woodman’s club captain and has been used 67 times by the former Crystal Palace goalkeeping coach since he was appointed as Bromley boss in March 2021.
“Byron has been great for me since I have been here,” Woodman told the South London Press.

“There is no doubt about that. I would even argue that Byron’s biggest qualities after off the pitch.
“He’s a real proper leader and captain. He’s a really good influence around the dressing room and players with how he trains, conducts himself and approaches every day.
“As much as people see what he does on the pitch, for me, he’s been an unbelievable captain since I have been here.
“When we won the FA Trophy, I don’t think I would have wanted anyone else to have picked that cup up more than him.
“He epitomises everything that I’m about, as a person and as a manager.
“His experience has been massive to the side. When muck and bullets are flying in some games, where we have really had to hang on, Byron has that ability to calm the group down and that manner to ensure they enjoy the battle ahead.
“It’s a really good leadership quality to have. He has had that at every club. It’s been invaluable to the younger boys who have been coming through.”
