Police plea for witness to fatal collision to come forward

Detectives investigating a fatal collision in Croydon have released an image of a potential witness.

The motorcyclist in the photo was believed to be close to the scene of the collision and may have vital information.

Police were called shortly after 6pm on August 30, 2022 to a collision involving an ambulance and a motorcycle at the junction of Purley Way and Edgehill Road.

The ambulance was en route to an emergency call at the time of the collision and its crew provided first aid.

Officers responded, along with the London Fire Brigade and London’s Air Ambulance.

Despite their efforts, the rider, 52-year-old David Sharp, from Lingfield in Surrey, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.

Cops from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command are investigating, and in particular are asking anyone who has dashcam footage to come forward.
