AFC Wimbledon handed FA fine following victory over Stockport

AFC Wimbledon have been handed a £2,500 fine by the FA for surrounding an official in their 1-0 win over Stockport on January 28.

The FA also fined Dave Challinor’s Stockport side £1,250 for the incident.

The Dons, who moved three points off the League Two play-off places thanks to the win, secured all three points in the 49th minute via a header from Harry Pell.

A statement for an FA Spokesperson said: “AFC Wimbledon and Stockport County FC have been fined £2,500 and £1,250 respectively for surrounding a match official during their FL League Two fixture on Saturday 28 January 2023.

“Both clubs admitted that they failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 8th minute, and an independent Regulatory Commission imposed their fines during a subsequent hearing.”

Speaking after the game, Dons boss Johnnie Jackson, who believed his side should have been awarded for a penalty for a foul on Josh Davison in the second half, said: “The one that isn’t given on Josh is ridiculous.

“That’s twice against Stockport. It’s not their fault, so I don’t mean that as any slur against Stockport, but we had a stonewall one turned down at their place in the second half, and it’s happened again.

“It’s not cost us today, but we have been on the wrong end of a few of late.

“We have had two red cards rescinded this year and some dubious penalty shouts as well, I will say.”
