‘Transition and adjustment’ – Mansfield boss Nigel Clough delivers verdict on AFC Wimbledon’s season ahead of Saturday’s Plough Lane clash

Mansfield boss Nigel Clough says AFC Wimbledon have been through a ‘transition and adjustment’ season.

Johnnie Jackson’s side have only picked up one win since the turn of the year and are now 11 points off the play-off places in League Two.

The Dons had to rebuild in the summer and had to rebuild once again in the winter window after Ayoub Assal was sold and four loanees returned to their parent clubs.

Wimbledon are also currently experiencing an injury crisis, with Harry Pell, Lee Brown, Diallang Jaiyesimi, Alex Pearce and Huseyin Biler all sidelined for Saturday.

Clough’s Mansfield side head to Plough Lane just one point off the top seven in the fourth tier.

Mansfield won the reverse fixture 5-2 back in August, with Chris Gunter being sent off for the Dons.

“A little bit up and down,” Clough told Mansfield’s YouTube channel of AFC Wimbledon’s season.

“They have improved of late.

“Once again, we played very well against them when they went down to 10 men earlier on in the season.

“They’re one of those teams – especially at home. They have a new ground – I’m looking forward to going to it.

“But they’re more than capable on their day. It’s been a transition and adjustment season for them.

“It’s one of those where Johnnie [Jackson] will get them together, ready to go for next season.”
