Disney Plus makes Croydon student its new Peter Pan
Disney’s highly anticipated Peter Pan & Wendy, starring a 16-year-old from Bromley, Alexander Molony, was released last week.
Alexander plays the children’s hero in the live action retelling of JM Barrie’s classic children’s story about a boy who doesn’t want to grow up.
The new film will hit screens exclusively on Disney Plus from April 28.
Alexander said: “It’s an absolute honour to play the part of Peter Pan, a character who has been in the hearts of so many for so many years.”
David Lowery directed the film in which Alexander stars alongside Jude Law as Captain Hook, Ever Anderson as Wendy and Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell.
Alexander is a Year 11 student at Trinity School in Shirley Road, Croydon and landed the role of Peter Pan back in 2019.
He prepared for the audition with Trinity’s director of drama, Miss Robinson, together they worked on the script and Alexander borrowed a dagger prop to take into the casting.
Having been a member of the school’s fencing club, Alexander had the skills he needed and after months of auditions, some including a stunt and sword-fighting choreographer, Alex was cast in the role of Peter.
Filming was delayed due to Covid, but eventually took place in Vancouver in early 2021, with a final month in Newfoundland as the backdrop for Neverland.
Alexander has worked professionally from a young age.
His impressive portfolio includes voice work credits in the Disney animated series Claude, working with the Royal Shakespeare Company in a production of Macbeth and starring alongside Romesh Ranganathan in his sitcom The Reluctant Landlord.
Alexander said: “I really don’t like seeing myself on screen. However, I am looking forward to seeing how the film has turned out, as so much effort went into the making of it.”
After the unforgettable experience of making a film, Alexander is ready to get back on the professional stage and looks to a future on the big screen.
