Millwall striker Tom Bradshaw nets Championship Player of the Month award

Millwall striker Tom Bradshaw has won the Championship Player of the Month for February.

The 30-year-old scored five goals in that period, including a second hat-trick of the campaign, as well as claiming one assist.

Bradshaw, also nominated for the January accolade, edged out Middlesbrough forward Chuba Akpom as well as two defenders – Burnley’s Hjalmar Ekdal and Coventry City’s Kyle McFadzean.

The Lions frontman has 13 Championship goals this season and is joint fourth in the divisional scoring charts, level with team-mate Zian Flemming.

“It’s the award that has always eluded me,” said Bradshaw. “I think this is my sixth nomination and I’d never won it. It’s a personal accolade I wanted to have.”
Millwall manager Gary Rowett said: “If you look at that month it has been a tremendous one for Bradders, and the team as well.

“He scored a fabulous hat-trick against Sheffield United to win us the game. He was managing himself through injury and pain and came on to score the equaliser against Burnley. Then he goes on to score in the Luton match as well.

“He just works tirelessly for the team. He is up there on his own chasing defenders and pressing, setting our defensive intensity.

“We’ve had a difficult period with a lot of injuries, illnesses and people playing through stuff. To go into the Sheffield United and Burnley games and take four points, then go to Stoke and win and draw at Luton – there have been some really big performances and big efforts with limited players. It shows how competitive the team have been so far. Of all the seasons we’ve had of trying to get into the top six, this year feels like we have been in and out of it quite consistently. I suppose, at this moment in time, it feels like a step in the right direction.

“The form of Tom and Zian, particularly their goalscoring, has made a huge difference.”
