Dons boss confirms defender will miss rest of the season

AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson has confirmed that Paul Kalamabyi will miss the rest of the season after having knee surgery.

The 23-year-old Dulwich-born made 32 appearances this season in all competitions under Jackson but had been missing since the 3-1 defeat at home to Mansfield Town.

Kalambayi has made 110 AFC Wimbledon appearances since progressing through the club’s academy.

Will Nightingale started alongside Aaron Pierre in the 1-0 defeat to Crawley last weekend.

Kalamabyi is already tied down for next season, signing a new deal in January 2022 until the summer of 2024.

“Paul, unfortunately, has had a chronic knee issue for a while now,” Jackson told the club’s YouTube channel.

“We were managing it the best that we could, but it became too much of an issue for him to play on.

“He’s gone and had surgery on that and it’s important for him that he gets it cleared by asap so he can attack pre-season with everything he has got.

“With the issue ongoing in his knee, unless he went to have surgery, it could have been something which hindered his career going forward.

“It’s a blow to lose him, but it was the right thing for the boy to go and do that.”
