15-year-old to stage a fundraiser to save the Union Theatre tonight
A 15-year-old Brit School student has planned a fundraising event this evening to save her mother’s theatre.
Nellie Regan hopes to save the Union Theatre in Union Street, Southwark, with a fundraising concert at The Other Palace tonight at 7.30pm.
Nellie’s mother, award-winning producer and artistic director Sasha Regan, founded the Union theatre 25 years ago.
Despite its initial success, Covid had a huge impact and it became hard for the theatre to survive.
In an effort to keep the theatre’s community spirit alive, Nellie has brought together musical theatre stars from the West End for an evening that will be co-hosted by Arran Bell and Michael Mather.
The cast will include Michael Ahomka-Lindsay, Bronté Barbé, Pearce Barron and Kyle Birch.
Nellie said: “This show will mean a lot to me and a lot to those who know and love the Union Theatre.
“The Union has a special place in a lot of people’s hearts.
“It’s not just a theatre but a home from home to many. It nurtures talent, brings together communities and gives artistic people a start in life.”
Nellie will also be appearing in the concert. As well as helping her mother to run the Union Theatre, she is studying musical theatre at The Brit School and has been involved in productions such as Whistle Down The Wind, When I Grow Up and has appeared in an advert for Jim Jams chocolate spread.
Nellie said: “Theatres like this are so important right now and The Union is a community. That support is crucial.
“Now more than ever we need our theatre to keep its doors open.”
The fundraiser takes place tonight at The Other Palace theatre in the West End at 7.30pm.
