‘We switched off’ – Fulham boss explains second-half collapse at Bournemouth

Fulham boss Marco Silva said his side switched off in the second half during their 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth on Saturday.

The west Londoners took the lead in the 16th minute through Andreas Pereira – the Brazilian playmaker finishing off a well-worked team move just inside the penalty area.

Bournemouth equalised in the 50th minute through Marcus Tavernier, who collected the ball on the edge of the box from a corner and curled a shot beyond Bernd Leno from the edge of the box.

The Cherries won all three points in the 79th minute when Dominic Solanke reacted quickest to bundle Ryan Christie’s rebounded effort into the back of the net.

Fulham are now without a win in their last four outings in all competitions.

“It was completely different,” Silva told Match of the Day of his side’s second-half performance.

“We were so clearly the better team in the first half. The goal we scored we very good.

“We had a little bit of a lack of a killer instinct in the second half because we were so much the better team. We should have tried to score the second goal to make it even more difficult for them.

“I told the players at half time that the reaction [from Bournmouth] would come, for sure. 

“We started the second half and switched off. It was a strong reaction from them and of course, we lost control of the game.

“We lost a little bit of confidence. 

“We switched off completely. It was a clear sloppy moment from ourselves – we were punished by that.”
