Car ploughs into fence on South Circular leaving two injured

Two people were injured after a car ploughed into a fence on the South Circular.

A black Mercedes veered off London Road in Sydenham yesterday at around 11.40am, yards away from the Horniman Museum, and crossed over a cycle path before it rammed through a wooden fence.

A man and a woman were treated at scene. It is believed they were the driver and passenger of the car.

Sydenham residents responded to the crash on social media with Dulwich Roads posting on Twitter: “Were they coming down Sydenham Hill at such speed they were unable to stop and so they crossed the carriageway and pavement? We hope nobody was hurt by this driver.”

Another resident, Nottinghillbilly, posted in the local forum SE23.com: “This is the second crash I’ve seen around this spot within a couple of weeks.

“Theres a lot of pedestrian traffic on that stretch of pavement and it looked like the driver must have been going at some speed to end up like that. It was a nice looking Mercedes too.”

The London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended the crash. LAS said it treated a patient but they did not need to be taken to hospital.

A spokesman for the Met said: “Police were called at 11:37am on April 18 to London Road after a car collided with a wall. No arrests.”
