Network Rail announce rail replacements and changes to services ahead of big sporting weekend

Rail passengers travelling to and from London this weekend are advised to plan their journeys in advance because of planned engineering which will affect Southern and Thameslink train services.

Network Rail has warned that trains and stations will be much busier than usual on Sunday, with spectators travelling to and from the London Marathon and the FA Cup semi-final, so passengers are warned to allow plenty of time for their journeys.

There will be changes to services in Surrey as well as south and central London.

On Saturday and Sunday, buses will replace trains between Streatham Hill and Crystal Palace and West Croydon as work to install a new signalling system continues in South London.

Also on Saturday and Sunday, no Thameslink trains will run between London Bridge and St Pancras International or Finsbury Park.

Jenny Saunders, customer services director for Southern and Thameslink, said: “We thank passengers for their patience while Network Rail carry out this essential work. We’ll still have trains running between Brighton and London.

“Trains and replacement buses will be very busy on Sunday and there could be queues, so please allow plenty of extra time when planning your journey.”
