Morecambe boss Derek Adams believes Charlton Athletic should have been pushing for promotion this season
Morecambe manager Derek Adams believes Charlton Athletic have a squad which should have been capable of fighting for promotion to the Championship this season.
The Addicks are 10th in League One, climbing the table under Dean Holden, who has won 10 of his 22 matches in charge since taking over from Ben Garner in December.
Charlton are 14 points off the play-off places with just three games of the campaign remaining.
Morecambe are 22nd in the table and three points from safety. However, they did beat play-off chasing Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 last time out.
“It would be really nice if we did,” said Adams of claiming all three points at The Valley.
“Three points would be hugely beneficial to us.
“We understand that Oxford, Cambridge and Accrington have got it in their favour – it’s in their hands at this moment in time.
“One of the four teams are going to get themselves out of this situation.
“We won there [at The Valley] 3-2 last season, and it was a great victory for us. It’s a great stadium to go to.
“They’re a very good side. Looking at the players they have through their squad, they’re one of the ones who should have been pushing for promotion out of this division.
“We go into it off a very good win against Wycombe.
“They have come off a very good win the other night against Milton Keynes. We’re looking forward to it.”
