Three-way battle for AFC Wimbledon academy goalkeeper
Manchester City, Brentford and Brighton are battling it out to land AFC Wimbledon young goalkeeper Spike Brits.
The South London Press understands 15-year-old is spending time on trial at each club to determine which side is best for his development.
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur were keeping tabs on the England U16 international earlier in the season.
Brits has trained with Wimbledon’s first-team goalkeepers Nik Tzanev and Nathan Broome and was named on the bench for their London Senior Cup game against Balham in October.
He is the next in line of a long list of exciting goalkeepers to have come through the Wimbledon academy.
Matthew Cox was sold to Brentford for an undisclosed fee at the start of last season.
Joe Whitworth – who also spent time at AFC Wimbledon’s academy – made his professional debut for Crystal Palace this season.
Club Brugge stopper Josef Bursik left Wimbledon in 2017 on a permeant deal to join Stoke City.
Now Cambridge keeper Will Mannion also came through at AFC Wimbledon’s youth team – leaving for Hull City in 2016.
