Ten people escape blaze from 12th floor flat fire

About 10 people and a cat were force to escape a blaze that ripped through a flat on the 12th floor of a block of flats.

Five fire engines and about 35 firefighters tackled the flat fire in Yarnton Way, Thamesmead, at around 9.20am today.

Most of a four-roomed flat on the 12th floor of a 13-storey block of flats was damaged by the fire. There were no injuries reported.

The London Fire Brigade said the cause of the fire was under investigation.

The fire was under control by around 10.50am. Fire crews from Plumstead, Erith, Bexley and East Greenwich fire stations were in attendance.
