Dulwich Runners enjoy successful Midsummer Relays
A record 81 boys and girls entered the children’s one-mile race which traditionally kicks off Dulwich Runners’ Midsummer Relays, writes Jonathan Whittaker.
Shad-Juan Bryan-Gay (5:31) and Jasmine Mahoney (5:51) were the respective victors.
Club and community teams from across London then battled it over three laps of Dulwich Park.
In the relay race the first leg saw an extremely close battle between Candy Racing’s Dale Seddon (4:43) and South London Harriers’ Daryl Cyprien (4:44) which also resulted in the fastest two times on the night.
Rob Sesemann – a 2022 winner – then asserted Kent AC’s ascendancy over the chasing pack with another rapid time (4:48).
The final leg saw Jake Simmonds go one second better to win the men’s team prize for Kent AC in 14:28 with Olly Buck’s opening time of 4:54 having earlier provided a strong platform for the team.
The Dulwich team of Rob Armstrong, Andy Bond and Fred Bungay picked up a strong second on the night in 14:49. In third was Candy Racing (15:14) whose team of Dale Seddon, Hayley Seddon and Matt Wood also won the first place mixed team prize ahead of Crack East’s team of Carrie Williams, Jack Lancefield and Alec Parcell (16:22).
Sarah Grover ran the second fastest ladies time of the evening (5:28) to give Herne Hill Harriers an early seven second lead over Kent AC rival Bryony Proctor.
Helena Keenan then matched Clare Elms’ 5:44 to maintain Herne Hill’s lead before the fastest time in the night saw Alexa Parker (5:23) win the team prize ahead of Herne Hill’s Hannah Edwards (5:52).
