Park to get £140k in funding for improvements after nine year community campaign
A council has announced that one of its parks will see nearly £140,000 in funding for a new playground and disabled toilets.
Yesterday afternoon, on the final day of Love Parks Week, Mayor of Croydon Jason Perry and councillor Scott Roche were joined in Park Hill Park, Fairfield Path, Croydon, by members of the community group, Friends of Park Hill Park to celebrate the announcement.
The funding comes following long standing calls for disabled toilets in the popular park.
Friends of Park Hill Park have been campaigning for improvements since 2014.
Plans for the playground will be announced in the coming weeks and a consultation will take place for the community to have an input in the design.
Catherine Graham and Josi Kiss, co-chairs of Friends of Park Hill Park said: “We are very pleased to learn that there are plans to install a disabled toilet and make improvements to the children’s playground in the park.
“The improvements needed became more apparent with an increase in usage by children living in flats close to the park.
“We look forward to the consultation about the playground, and will be encouraging families to get involved.”
During Love Parks Week, which began on July 28, Croydon also announced that Wandle Park has won the international Green Flag award.
