Bring identity form if you want to use Bexley recycling site
Changes to the way Bexley residents access the borough’s reuse and recycling centres will come into force from next month.
From 1 September , existing permits will no longer be accepted on both sites.
Residents will continue to need to provide a valid ID to be able to gain access to the sites.
This will include a valid driving licence or a council tax bill.
To help us monitor usage and types of rubbish disposed of, staff on site will record the residents’ address, vehicle registration number, vehicle make and the type of rubbish brought on site upon entry.
There will also be a reduction in the annual weight allowance from 500kg to 250kg for residents in vans at Thames Road Transfer Station.
Councillor Richard Diment, cabinet member for places, said: “We want to make visiting our reuse and recycling centres as fair as possible for all our residents.
“Our records show us that some site users may take advantage of the free facilities to dispose of commercial rubbish without a licence or to dispose of a disproportionate amount of rubbish compared to their neighbours.
The new system will help us to monitor use of the centres so that we can continue to look at ways to run the centres to not only encourage recycling wherever we can, but to make sure that Bexley residents are able to access the service when they need to.”
