Elderly woman saved by two heroes after she was nearly robbed of £100K worth of jewellery

Two members of the public saved an elderly woman from being robbed of £100,000 of jewellery after they challenged the would-be thieves in the street.

The incident took place at around 5pm on August 19 in Elgin Crescent, just off Kensington Park Road, Kensington.

A woman in her 80s was stopped on Elgin Crescent by two unknown suspects who took a suitcase from her vehicle containing £100,000 worth of jewellery

Two passers-by saw one of the suspects heading off with the victim’s suitcase and challenged the suspects as they reached Ladbroke Road.

The two witnesses followed a one of the robbers who subsequently dropped the jewellery and ran off again shortly after.

The Met are appealing for the two members of the public who are key witnesses to come forward following the attempted robbery.

Detective Constable Will Wigzell, from the Met’s Flying Squad, has said tracing the two male witnesses is key to the case.

He said: “This was a targeted attack on a vulnerable woman. The jewellery was thankfully recovered but we still urgently need to find the suspects.

“From our enquiries we believe that the two men who witnessed this incident hold important information and we urge them to come forward to help us with our investigations and to help us to solve this crime.

“It was thanks to them that the jewellery was returned and we would like to hear any other information that they can share that could help.

“If you hold any information at all please call 101 or post @MetCC quoting reference CRIS 5615510/23. To remain 100% anonymous contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visit crimestoppers-uk.org.”
