Big Brother contestant ‘repping South London’ as show makes big return
A contestant on the new series of reality TV show Big Brother said she is “repping South London” after the first episode aired last night.
The show has made a big comeback after going off air in 2018, and in last night’s episode the house was filled with 16 new contestants.
One of them, Hallie, from South London, will be doing her best to stay in the Big Brother house as long as possible for a chance to win £100,000.
In her introductory video to the show, Hallie said she is “repping South London”, as well as being the youngest contestant at the age of 18.
ITV, the show runners, said it was unable to provide more details about Hallie, who is a youth worker in the capital.
The 18-year-old said the “social experiment” of Big Brother made her want to join the show.
“I feel like Big Brother is the biggest social experiment and I want to be a part of it,” she said.
“It’s about getting my face out there and just having fun, enjoying life. I’m only 18 so I didn’t grow up watching it but as I got older, I would watch clips on YouTube and stuff, so I’ve been a fan. And yeah, just for fun, really.”
The teenager admitted to accidentally swallowing magnets as a child when asked for an interesting fact about herself.
“I was in the news because I had to get them surgically removed and everything,” she said.
Hallie also admitted to being a bit of a “diva”.
“I speak my mind but I’m also a very lovely person,” she said. “I’m a girl’s girl, for sure. I’m honest, fun and, yeah, just brilliant.
“I’m quite opinionated, I like speaking my mind and not many people like that. I’m quite real.”
The youth worker plans to give her mum “a couple of grand and flowers” if she does manage to win the contest to say thank you for all she has done.
The new series of Big Brother has returned to screens AJ Odudu and Will Best as hosts.
In the UK, Big Brother first aired on Channel 4 and ran for a total of 11 series, plus seven series of Celebrity Big Brother and a final special edition series entitled Ultimate Big Brother.
The show then aired for eight series on Channel 5, with an additional 15 celebrity series, before going on hiatus in 2018.
The upcoming 2023 series will be aired on ITV2 and ITVX.
