Four garages ‘destroyed’ and three houses damaged in huge blaze

A fire ripped through four garages and three houses along the Thames last night.

Eight fire engines and about 60 firefighters tackled the blaze in Gadwall Way in Thamesmead

Four single-storey garages were destroyed and part of three terraced houses were also damaged in the fire.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) has not reported any injuries.

The brigade’s 999 control officers took almost 30 calls to the fire.

The first call was received at around 7pm and the fire was under control by around 8.30pm.

Fire crews from Plumstead, East Greenwich, Bexley, Greenwich and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

A spokesperson from the LFB said: “The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
