Gareth Ainsworth: I’ll fight to make QPR reign a success

Gareth Ainsworth has insisted that he is the right man to stay on at QPR despite their woeful form in the Championship.
The R’s went down 4-0 against Blackburn Rovers last weekend at Loftus Road, a third straight loss in a winless spell stretching to six matches.
The west Londoners are 22nd in the Championship table and have not picked up maximum points at home this season under the former Wycombe boss.
Blackburn’s drubbing – a brace from  Arnor Sigurosson with Tyrhys Dolan and Sammie Szmodics also scoring  – saw the Hoops set a club record of an 11th straight game in W12 without a win.
When asked about his job security, Ainsworth said: “I haven’t been told that nobody is backing me – players or the board – so I’ll carry on the way I’m going.
“I’m a fighter – I don’t fear anything.
“I can stand in the mirror and know I give my best every time I walk into the training ground, pick the team or manage a game. If that’s not good enough, then I’ll be told.
“But at the moment I intend to keep going and make myself and these players better – that’s the way forward.
“We must make it better at home. We have to address this home form quickly. Teams who stay up have got to get points at home – you can’t rely on away points to get out of relegation scraps.
“I have been in some pretty tough places before – that’s football. If you start looking at it like that, you can lose sight of reality. I’m going to work really hard to get out of this. If you give your best, that’s all you need to do. I do that every single day.
“I want to breed winners and I have to make these boys winners. These are good players at QPR but, for some reason, it’s not clicking at the moment.
“I believe we have a better squad. It didn’t show today in the result, but I’m sure confident we can pick up enough points with this squad.”
Reports have suggested that QPR are looking to tie down striker Sinclair Armstrong on a new long-term deal amid interest from Crystal Palace and Scottish giants Celtic.
The Irish international has scored one goal and recorded two assists during his 11 Championship outings. He is out of contract in June.
The Dubliner made his senior Ireland debut as a late substitute in their 2-1 loss at home to the Netherlands.
