Chuks Aneke setback as Charlton striker set to miss rest of this year with injury

Chuks Aneke looks set to be missing until the start of 2024 with the hamstring injury he suffered in the 4-0 win over Reading last weekend.

The big striker had been sidelined at the beginning of the campaign with a calf issue.

Aneke, 30, had returned in the middle of September and made seven appearances, scoring against the Royals.

But he was forced off early in the second half after pulling up as he tried to run on to a George Dobson through ball.

“Early indications from what the first scan shows doesn’t look great, if I’m being honest,” said Addicks head coach Michael Appleton.

“Timescales, I can’t give you definitive. I’d have to speak to the medical staff when they do a little bit more of an investigation – because he is going to get a second and a third opinion around it.

“Without sort of being quoted on it too much, it’s going to be a couple of months at least.”

Summer signing Terry Taylor had ankle surgery earlier this month.

“He’s doing alright,” said Appleton. “If the brace hasn’t come off yet, it is due to come off soon.

“The first week or so after the operation is about keeping your chin up and your morale. Very, very quickly when you’re able to get back in the gym and around the players and medical staff is when the focus gets a little bit closer to what the end line looks like.

“I’m sure in the next week he will be in. Like most injuries he has got a lot of hard work ahead of him but he’s the type of lad and character who can do it.”
