Women’s football round-up: Charlton can go joint top as Millwall extend winning run

Charlton Athletic have the chance to move joint-top of the FA Women’s Championship tomorrow when they take on bottom-of-the-table Lewes.
The Addicks are unbeaten in five league matches and edged past South London rivals Crystal Palace with a 3-2 win before the recent international break.
Sunderland top the second tier with 18 points, with Karen Hills’ Charlton side three points behind.
Lewes have only won once in their opening eight games – a 2-1 success over fellow strugglers Watford.
Crystal Palace – fourth in the table and a point behind Charlton – will be looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the season when they head to Watford on Sunday.
Millwall Lionesses beat Crawley AFC 4-0 last Sunday in the London & South East Regional Women’s Premier Division, taking their winning streak under co-caretaker managers Adam Rowland and Alex Russell to five games.
They opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Shannan Drewe headed home Liv McGregor’s cross.
Chloe Burr doubled the advantage 10 minutes later when she turned Drewe’s cross into the back of the net.
Melissa Jones added a third with 15 minutes left to play and Ellen Napper scored Millwall’s fourth late on.
AFC Wimbledon Women extended their lead at the top of National League Division One South East after a 5-0 win at Plough Lane over Worthing.
Kevin Foster’s side, who have only lost once in the division all season, took the lead through Ellie Dorey early on in the second half.
Dorey doubled her tally and Wimbledon’s lead in the 62nd minute when she headed home Ashlee Hincks’ free-kick.
She grabbed her hat-trick with a shot from close range.
Sandra Soares Martins left the Worthing goalkeeper rooted to the spot when she took aim from just inside the area to add Wimbledon’s fourth.
The Dons rounded off the afternoon when Soares Martins met a cross inside the penalty area and swiped a first-time effort into the net.
Wimbledon can make it eight wins in a row in all competitions this Sunday when they travel to Actonians.
