Player ratings from Crystal Palace’s 3-2 defeat at home to Everton

Crystal Palace suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to Everton on Saturday.

The Eagles have only won once at home in the Premier League this season.

Here are Edmund Brack’s player ratings from Selhurst Park:

SAM JOHNSTONE – 5

Could do nothing about any of the goals.

JOEL WARD – 5

Vitaliy Mykolenko beat him in the air to score the opener, but Ward was flatfooted and the Everton defender had the momentum.

Did really well to stop Dominic Calvert-Lewin at the back post after Ashley Young’s pinpoint cross.

JOACHIM ANDERSEN – 6

Strong challenge to deny Dwight McNeil from bursting into the penalty area in the 39th minute when Jeffrey Schlupp lost the ball.

MARC GUEHI – 5

Played an excellent pass in first half added time through to Eze, but he was unable to latch onto the ball.

Did really well to get in front of Beto when the Everton striker capitalised on Andersen losing possession.

Gave away three fouls.

TYRICK MITCHELL – 6

Won five of his six tackles and was only dribbled past once.

WILL HUGHES – 5

Crossed for Edouard, but the French striker could not apply the finish.

Failed to track the run of Idrissa Gueye for Everton’s winner.

JEFFERSON LERMA – 8

Great pass to find Odsonne Edouard in the 61st minute, but the Frech striker was unable to find the finish.

An excellent flying challenge to break up the Everton counter-attack a minute later.

Put a chance just wide when the ball fell to him on the edge of the box.

Headed the ball back into the penalty area for Edouard to score.

His best performance since his debut against Sheffield United.

Won eight aerial battles against a strong Everton midfield.

JEFFREY SCHLUPP – 7

Put in a cross to the back post in the 60th minute that led to a mix up at the back for Everton and Pickford making a great save low down.

Was having his best game of the season before being replaced for Michael Olise, with Palace in need of an equaliser.

EBERECHI EZE – 8

Beautiful trademark run to draw Jarrad Branthwaite into bringing him down for the penalty. Excellent spot kick to bring the game level.

Was unplayable in the first half, with his driving runs, flicks and slaloming causing all sorts of problems for the Toffees.

Faded out of the game in the second half but was a joy to watch at times.

JORDAN AYEW – 5

Good work to win a corner in the 79th minute.

Excellent work rate to get back in the 88th minute and stop an Everton attack before driving forward and winning a free-kick.

But did not offer anything going forward.

ODSONNE EDOUARD – 6

Had a shot in the 47th minute, which was awkward for Pickford to hold.

Took his goal well, capitalising on a mistake from James Tarkowski.

Linked up well with Eze when the Greenwich-born attacker was playing into his feet.

SUBS:

MICHAEL OLISE – 6

First involvement was linking up with Eze and hitting a shot that deflected behind for a corner.

So good to see him back.
