Daniel Dubois planning to put a ‘Big Baby’ to sleep
Daniel Dubois has promised to put a ‘Big Baby’ to sleep on December 23 and shunt himself back into the heavyweight equation for world title opportunities.
The 26-year-old, from Greenwich, is due to face Jarrell Miller in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia next month.
Dubois will be on the ‘Day Of Reckoning’ event which will also see Anthony Joshua take on Otto Wallin while Deontay Wilder is challenged by Joseph Parker.
The plan is for Joshua and Wilder, both former world heavyweight champions, to collide early in 2024.
Dubois was stopped in the ninth round by Oleksandr Usyk in August as the Ukrainian successfully defended his WBA, IBF and WBO belts.
Miller brought plenty of heat to the London press conference to promote the show and has labelled his South London opponent a quitter.
“I’m glad he’s here and that I’ve got him in my next fight,” said Dubois. “I’m ready to go out there and put him to sleep. I’m going to take all my frustrations out on him.
“This is a proper fight and I can’t wait for it. He is a big old man and I’ve got to chop him down.
“I need a win – I need to dig really deep and do that. I’m glad he is heavy and saying all these things. I hope he comes and fights me like that on the night.”
Miller, whose nickname is Big Baby, has zeroed in on the fact that Dubois’ appetite to fight drained away in his two defeats.
A badly swollen eye saw him drop to one knee and take the full count when he faced Joe Joyce for the European title in 2020. And there also did not seem to be heavily concussive punches when he was halted by Usyk – although he also put the champion down with a body punch that was deemed low by the referee.
“There are some things you don’t do as a fighter,” said Miller. “You have got to go out of there on your shield. If you get dropped or break your jaw, you keep fighting.
“Dubois doesn’t have that in him and he is fighting a guy who is 230 pounds, throwing 80 punches a round and goes to the body like hell.
“Come December 23 I’m going to put his lights out and send his a** home.
“He got stopped by a jab (against Usyk). Once his game plan doesn’t work after a couple of rounds then he starts to crumble.
“I think the people in his corner made him take this fight and it’s a bad call because I’m going to whup his a***.”
