Gail’s bakery plans to open at Woolwich Elizabeth Line station

Plans have been revealed for a new Gail’s Bakery in Woolwich.
Greenwich council has received an application from Gail’s Limited to open a new store in the Woolwich Elizabeth line station.
Council documents said the proposal could cost up to £2million to deliver. The plans show illuminated lettering being added to the front of the shop with an aluminium frame and glazed doors in its design.
The shop is also planned to have outside seating, with the indoor area including room for several toasting racks and an oven.
The new store would sit in a unit to the left of the entrance to the station, which has remained empty since the station opened in May 2022.
Transport for London previously claimed there are regularly 35,000 entries and exits to the station on weekdays. The transport authority added that the Elizabeth line had added an estimated £42billion to the UK economy.
Labour Council Averil Lekau, Deputy Leader of Greenwich Council and Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Environment and Transport, previously said the addition of the Elizabeth line had brought substantial benefits for the local economy and community in Woolwich.
She said that the council hoped to extend the DLR to Thamesmead after seeing the improvements that had been brought to Woolwich.
She added: “The Elizabeth line has transformed travel for our residents, shrinking London and bringing more job opportunities closer to them. The addition of this to Woolwich’s already busy public transport hub, makes the area more attractive for businesses to base themselves here, creating more jobs locally.”
The planning department of Greenwich council has until December 26 to process the application for the new bakery.
