QPR head coach Cifuentes gives his verdict on Sinclair Armstrong’s display in win against Millwall

Sinclair Armstrong deserves all the credit for his recent performances, according to QPR boss Marti Cifuentes.

The Irish international scored his first league goal since August to wrap up Saturday’s 2-0 win against Millwall and reignite Rangers’ hopes of surviving relegation from the Championship.

Armstrong only started one of Cifuentes’ first 10 games as Rangers boss, but he has now been in the starting line-up for the last three matches and had an impact in each of them.

“For a striker, it is always important to score no matter how. Just to score – it raises the confidence,” said the QPR head coach.

“To criticise him last week [in the 2-1 defeat to Warford] for getting the chances and not scoring would be very unfair.

“He’s a young guy, learning and improving every week, and I am pleased for him.”

Having also found the net in the FA Cup defeat to Bournemouth, the 20-year-old now has more goals in his last three games as he managed in his first 46 appearances for the west London club.

“I am very pleased with the steps that he is making to better use his skills,” said Cifuentes.

“When I arrived he was offside five times every game, the last two games he got only one. So, he’s starting to learn to position himself and deal with the physicality of other teams against him.

“The details show he is [moving] in the right direction.

“I will not take the credit. When the player has the ambition and is humble to learn, then we try to work with him.

“I have the staff behind me that will try to see how we can help him to get better. There is no big secret.”
